Sailing the wine dark sea
your poetic side is solid.
Powerful and true.
Very vivid - the image of 'buckles and boots all shined' seemed to set up the sound of brushing your boots clean..and that noise soldiered onto the end..Jae
Thanks for commenting, everyone. A shined buckle is no defense against a sniper.
Liked it.. beautifully expressed..
One that I love is a Marine sniper in Afghanistan. This conveys his strong confidence.
This reminds me of something that could have been written by one of the poets from WWI. Pity that nothing's changed after all these years. Beautifully done.
Great expressions and feels patriotic too.
I love the quick feel of this poem, Tony. I think this expresses the soldier's life perfectly. It's get things done, try to forget yourself and get into action. There's so much here. I could go on and on. Love it.
it is good to remember the soldiers oath of everyday life and death.. the distance is really not that far...
Vivid description in so few short words. Nice.........dhole
My dad was a Marine killed in Vietnam - your words brought him vividly to my mind.
Thanks for the comments, everyone. I'm coming late to this after the holiday. It's nice to be getting back in the rhythm of normal life.
